Sounds to me like your spool disk had the system boot files on it. Win2k's
installer sometimes puts them on drives other than your intended, And I
beleive NT4 did too...

Subject: [IMail Forum] Help! IMail HD won't boot
A 18wheeler took out a transformer this morning but my
IMail 6.x NT4 sp6a server (on UPS) was shut down
correctly.
After 1.5 hours, power was restored. All the servers
came up except for my IMail server. The First error
was a Adaptec SCSI adaptor "no drive ID 0" No big
deal ID 0 is just IMail Spool drive. Turned off the
server, unpluged ID0 and booted.
Now I got the dreaded "No Operating System" error on
the IMail C drive.
I used a recent NT Emergency disk hich reinstalled the
hal.dll and ntosknl files. After rebooting I get the
OS Loader 4 screen but it stops with the error
OS Loader V2.10
The system did not load because of a computer disk
hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check the
boot path and disk hardware.
Please check the Windows NT documentation about
hardware disk configuration and your hardware
reference manuals for additional information. Boot
failed.
The device or partition component of a path is
incorrect
Please send any suggestions to
