I don't have the answer for you, but do have a workaround.
I encountered two SSL problems with 6.x (the lockups, and any POST-based
functions such as deleting messages and replying to them failing for some
users). Both were fixed by using "SSL tunnelling" (using free the program
at www.stunnel.org ).
SSL tunnelling simply converts a standard port to SSL, by "tunnelling" the
information to a different port. The original port can continue to be used
without SSL, but the new port uses SSL (all the information is
sent/received to/from the non-SSL port).
The end result is that you get SSL, without having to use IMail's SSL
functionality.
