IMail only uses standard ports, and ones you'll know about (for example, it
uses a non-standard port 8383 for web messaging, but you'll know that
because you have to use port 8383 in the link to web messaging). There are
no "secret" ports.

That's not an port/IMail problem. Ping uses ICMP -- if the computer is on
and reachable and working properly, it will respond. The firewall (usually
in poorly-thought-out situations) may block ICMP echo requests, though, in
which case ping will come back as "down/unreachable".

brick.net's mail servers respond very slowly, but are running sendmail, not
IMail.
If you let us know the IP we might be able to help further.
Can you telnet to port 25 on the server? If so, the mail server is
probably running properly.
