The key is to use the right tests (the "right" tests are different for
different people).

For example, we strongly discourage people from using the BADWHOIS test
(run by http://www.rfc-ignorant.org ), as it blocks a lot of legitimate
mail (it lists several TLDs such as uk and us).

Then there are other tests that you almost certainly should use, such as
the BADHEADERS test, which will catch a lot of spam but won't catch any
legitimate E-mail (except mail coming from broken E-mail clients, but those
could easily get discarded elsewhere anyways).

Those do tend to be very effective for most people.

We are happy to give you advice on the settings to use. The problem is
that different people have different needs. Different domains tend to get
different types of spam, depending on how long the domain has been used,
where the addresses have been used, and so forth. We do have a list of the
DNS-based tests and some information on each of them at
http://www.declude.com/junkmail/support/ip4r.htm , but nobody seems to have
a list that includes information such as what % of spam they are catching,
if any legitimate mail is getting caught, and so forth -- so we just don't
have access to that kind of information.

Our two usual suggetions are either [1] Check the Declude JunkMail logs to
see what tests are failing, to get an idea of which tests are most useful
to you, or [2] subscribe to the Declude JunkMail mailing list and see what
others are using/suggesting (you can send an E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with "subscribe declude.junkmail Your Name" in the body to join).
