That is not so ridiculous. Try Verestar. We used to use Interpacket(Verestar bought it) and they were US$6000 per MBit per month simplex. We were paying for 6MB every month.
Plus US$20,000 for a terrestrial T1 from Cable & Wireless here which is about 12 routers away from the backbone.
