How does Postfixgate determine if it should
blacklist an IP address. This is the scenario I have found with one of our
IP's:
- Server has been behin a firewall with no access
from outside world for the past year if not more;
- Is not open relay, but even if it were no-one can
access it as it is on our LAN
- Is used as a mailserver (one of our own domains)
but no spam has ever been sent
Now, please don't tell me that it's open relay,
because it's not. I can guarantee that no UCE goes out from that IP, it's
associated with my personal (non commercial) site. How the heck did it end up in
Postfixgate?
Don't get me wrong, I detest spam (I even run
Declude JunkMail on one of our mail servers) but isn't there a limit between
what's real spam and what could be a recipient complaining that he got an email
that could have been sent in error (that's the only case scenario I can think
might have happened). Even so, shouldn't service that charge users that use
their database (such as Postfixgate) to VERIFY that it is really a source of
SPAM.
What's more is that there is no email contact on
postfixgate's site, and yes - I can request unblock me on their site, but I want
to know how I got into there in the first place.
