Then what does everyone do when a hippie comes in and pees on everyones hands?? If you haven't considered the possibility, then, in your arrogance, you may not be have the capability to wash your hands. I hope its not lunchtime when this happens, 'cause ya aint gonna wanna use them hands now, is ya?!?!
This translates to: What happens if a friend of one of your users gives that user a floopy disk with a Word document they need printed. Then that Word document ends up having a virus. Your going to feel pretty irresponsible when that virus infects other computers on your network because you thought that you were protected!! Current best practices indicate that anti-virus should be performed at the desktop, server, email and connection (internet connection) points. The first three are fairly easy and reasonably inexpensive to accomplish as this list would attest to. The connection point is the most difficult and expensive right now, so it is left undone by most admins. But I'm sure that if they had the budget and time, they would scan all incoming/outgoing internet traffic too. My practice is to avoid sticking my digits in the toilet. Some servicemen were about to leave the restroom. One was standing at the sink. He said to the other, "In the navy, they taught us to wash our hands after going to the bathroom." The other said, "In the army they taught us not to pee on our hands." The third said, "In the air force we learned how to hold it." (I just added the last one to this old joke.) >Realize that there are virus infection vectors other than email and you need >to protect yourself from all of them. No one measure can ever be enough. I was referring to hosts censoring emails that have specific enclosures. I do understand the need to protect your servers, though. And I certainly see the need for it for Intranets and companies that have networks that can be affected by a single user's mistake.
