Windows XP's Outlook 2002 blocks access to certain attachments by extension and it cannot be turned off.
Here is the current list of blocked extensions: -- .cmd, .com, .cpl, .crt, .exe, .hlp, .hta, .inf, .ins, .isp, .js, .jse, .lnk, .mda, .mdb, .mde, .mdz, .msc, .msi, .msp, .mst, .pcd, .pif, .reg, .scr, .sct, .shs, .url, .vb, .vbe, .vbs, .wsc, .wsf, .wsh -- So .exe files will not make it to anyone using Outlook 2002. Whilst there are other means of distributing these patches, e-mailing the correct patch directly to a person who needs it is far, far easier than explaining which Micro$oft article they should be reading. A blanket block on all .exe attachments is probably a good thing, but certain companies don't make it easy for the rest of us to implement such a rule.
