The issue boils down to 'Do you want emailed replies to your
newsgroup postings?'

If the answer is no, just use a bogus email address.

If yes, you'll have to guess at how many legitimate replies you will
get before spammers grab that email address.  A better option would
be a lifetime limit, i.e. expire after Dec 17, 2001.

Another issue is the automatic creation feature.  Once the spammers
catch on to the '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' syntax they can just
add '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' to their list of
spammable addresses and know that it will be good for a million pieces
of spam.
