i have a newer machine i wish to move my installation to. i currently have the primary domain not in the imail directory but in its own like an additional domain i.e. c:\imail\homepage\users etc rather than c:\imail\users. i believe this is causing me some problems with alias administration.
so on the new machine i am proposing to add an additional ip address and allocate it as the primary domain but have no active users alias's etc. then all domains can have their own directories etc, and if in the future i wish to move the database from imail to an external i will have no problems as the primary is not used in that way and can remain on the server. however i am concerned as i have many virtual domain all of which point at the current primary mail.homepage.net, and we also act as a backup mail server for some clients. if i change the primary to a different ip and do not allocate a domain name will this cause problems. also does imail only use the primary domain for delivery or can this be changed. as if this is true i will have to add a domain record and reverse lookup for the primary and i would rather leave it off so only people with the knowledge of the ip can access it (i know this won't stop port scanning etc but it adds to the spice of life for the management). thanks in advance for any responses. this list is a great resource and interesting early morning reading on the way into work. dan Daniel Handley Infrastructure Manager, HomePage Ltd Tel: +44 (0)20 8880 4570 Fax: +44 (0)20 8880 4328 mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.homepage.net Please visit http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html to be removed from this list.
