>The database was An Access DB. Connection to mail server is T1.

It will be very easy to saturate a T1 with a 500K mailshot.

There will have to be careful, ie, tedious, tuning to rate-limit the
mailshot so the T1 is not saturated, does not drop packets due to
congestion, and allows SMTP and DNS traffic to progress without fatal delays.

500 k mgs x 10 k bytes = 5000 kk bytes

(if you want to us HTML mail, you'r probably looking at 30 kbytes/msg. HTML
mail is expensive in bandwidth)

A T1 is roughly 175 kbytes/sec

5000 kk bytes / (175 k bytes/sec) = 29 k secs

29 k sec / 3.6 k secs/hr = 8 hours with the line unuseably saturated.

You probably want to keep your T1 line at about 50 to 60% on average,
meaning your mail shot will take 16 to 20 hours on a T1.
