With any firewall advertizing "SMTP proxy" be extremely careful since a lot 
of them seem to support only SMTP and not ESMTP (meaning no SMTP AUTH).

If you want real mailbox server security, put IMGate in the DMZ and don't 
filter port 25 on the outer firewall.

any VPN is rather tough to work with, which is basically why VPN's have 
been rolled out slower than everybody predicted some years back.  but they 
are getting easier.
