Just finished installing brand new top of the line sonicwall (new hardware
just started shipping).  Does have some SMTP filtering capability (haven't
explored, don't know if it's a "proxy").  VPN to a remote client was a snap
(and I'm a total neophyte, this was my first firewall).

Two problems SW support helped with.  1) VPN connections were dying early.
There is a hidden feature set, ask Sonicwall for help if that happens.  2)
VPN client didn't work on 802.11b clients, a drag.

SWs don't proxy SMTP.  Everything is passed to imail.  No auth problems.
