The response is correct -- the user *is* known:

The "250" response is all the computer looks at, and means "OK, I'll accept
mail for this recipient and make sure that it gets to the recipient."
(which may or may not mean a local user). The "[EMAIL PROTECTED] will
leave the Internet" is just a message that the remote SMTP server gives for
humans to read -- in this case, I'd assume that it means that
[EMAIL PROTECTED] gets delivered through non-Internet means (perhaps
Charter has an "E-mail only" service of some sort, that doesn't allow any
Internet access).
In any case, charter.net agreed it would accept E-mail for that user.

And this line (after the E-mail was sent by IMail) shows that charter.net
accepted the E-mail that IMail sent it, and is now responsible for
delivery. You've done everything correctly, and so have they. If the
message didn't get delivered, it's a problem on their end (perhaps "will
leave the Internet" means snail mail, and it will take a few days!).
