Tony, thanks for the insight... although that may work in an ISP situation where everyone would be local, no one is... We have many domains and people are all over the place, thus the need to use smtp auth., with no mail relay enabled.
What would be better is to have a domain wide option to enable/disable SMTP sending. I believe there's something like this for pop going domain wide.
