My $0.02. The trouble with authorizing SMTP access based on a domain is that spammers have no issues with faking the source domain of their email... In fact, that's something they do a lot... so your server would be wide open to them.
HOWEVER, Declude HiJack is intened to solve precisely the problem you seem to have. You might look into that as part of your solution. Here is an excerpt from the Declude site: Declude Hijack prevents unwanted mass mailings. The primary benefit is that it allows you to run an open relay, while preventing spammers from hijacking your mail server. Another major benefit is that it will catch your own users who may be sending out spam. Other benefits include minimizing or eliminating virus outbreaks, and eliminating some types of mail loops.
