Scott,

>In my past experience you can reply to a list with unsubscribe in the
>subject.

Imail prefers that the list commands be sent in the body of an e-mail
sent to the list module ('[EMAIL PROTECTED]'). All of the well-known
mailing list managers will do it this way by default; even if they
also catch and process list commands sent to the list address itself,
this is generally deprecated and does involve more overhead. There's
yet another option, the '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' address,
which Imail does support but which must be created manually (see the
KB).

>So the return user must be "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" for the subject
>unsubscribe to work.

As above, Imail doesn't do unsubscribes that way. You generally would
tag each message with a footer that explains how to unsubscribe, or...

>How do I sign on as maillist as the username to send a message to be
>directed to the entire list since you can't enter a password for an
>alias.

...you *could* set your list to Reply-To Sender mode, then set up your
mail client's profile for the moderator account to have the Reply-To:
of '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' (provided you have created this
alias) and the From: of the original sender. *Any* reply will then go
to the unsubscribe alias. Problem is that you then have to tell them
how to actually *post* to the list! Then there's the really complex
stuff: you set up a username in place of the list name, then use Rules
and Info Manager to check for command messages and forward mail to the
real listname (like '[EMAIL PROTECTED],' though users wouldn't
need to know this) if no command messages are found.

Let me know if this makes sense. You are pushing the limits of
IMAILSRV here--most people don't try to kludge the
unsubscribe/subscribe process this much, since it can be a pain to
manage. I may be the only one who's ever gone this far into hacking
the thing. I do advise creating the listname-unsubscribe alias,
though--it makes things cleaner.

Sandy
