Most people will put it off making the change until the old account goes dead. They will then call tech support because they cannot send email. That is our nightmare. We do not want them to get an error from the email client just a instructional email from the temp server. If that is the only message they get ..... maybe they will read it. I was thinking of adding a Linux box just for the script and email. We would change the DNS when the cut-over happens to point to the temp server which would have the script. We expect to have around 100,000 users a day, for a few weeks go to the temp server which we want to deliver the message. We do not have control of the existing email solution but we will be sending messages before the cut-over to remind them that their email will be changing and what to do.
