There's no way to do it with 100% certainty on all servers.  "VRFY
[EMAIL PROTECTED]", if supported, will let you know whether or not an
account exists.  If VRFY isn't supported, you can try "MAIL FROM" and "RCPT
TO" and see what happens (on IMail, for example, it will either tell you
the account doesn't exist, or say "delivering to alternate" if an alias is
being used (such as the "nobody" alias)).
