Note the FAQ below, especially the "A user reports:..."

This means that:

1.  the user doesn't have to do anything in order to authenticate, because it automatically authenticates to outgoing and incoming, OR

2.  All 97 users are SOL, and I have to upgrade hundreds of users to 98 or above.

Finally, when I change the relay options and require authentication, will it work for my 97 users?

Question/Problem: When running Outlook Express or Outlook 2000 there is a setting for "My Server Requires Authentication". Where is this setting in Outlook 97?

Answer/Solution: You will need to install Internet mail Enhancement patch for Outlook 97 to have access to these features. This is also found in Office 97 SP1 and SP2b.


A user reports: these service packs do not allow for SMTP authentication. The user must upgrade to at least Outlook 98 for this option.
