Brad, This should work without a problem. Main is actually the default subarea for rules (as well as being the default mailbox without rules), so it certainly is a valid subarea.
Maybe you're filtering on something that isn't actually in there? Are you sure it's the RFC822 From: field that has your culprit? Or perhaps it's encoded in some ridiculous, spammery way that's slipping through? I guess if it works to another subarea that'd confirm that the rules engine picks it up.
