Are they using some obscure mail client?  I believe the "possible hack 
attempt" occurs when IMail sees lines greater than 1000 characters during 
SMTP/POP3 commands (which shouldn't normally occur).

The "quick fix" would be to disable the "auto-deny hack attempts" in the 
POP3 settings.
