1) Is each domain on the same IP address (virtual domains) or different IP addresses?
2) What are you using to create your users? The IMail Admin module, the web messaging admin, or your own program? 3) What is your back-end data store? ODBC, NT Users, or IMail? There are different ways to manage users depending on this info. For virtual domains, users must have a unique login name for that IP address. For example, if [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] are on the same IP address, but on different virtual domains, they will be seen as the same user. So, the addresses must be: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you have multiple domains that require the same usernames, put them on different IP addresses. To log in to web messaging, you would have to go to mail.location1.com and login as abuse or mail.location2.com and login as abuse. As far as I know, there is no direct was to setup logins like Post Office (ie [EMAIL PROTECTED]). You _could_ setup your own login screen that parses out the username and domain strings and redirects the login to the appropriate domain. This would depend on your platform and programming language, but would be pretty simple to do. Let me know if you need information on that. -Norm -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Darrell LaRock Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 10:28 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [IMail Forum] New User Creation How would you get imail to allow you to have a different logon name other than the first part of your email. I am hoping for this functionality because of a migration I am in the process of from a different mail server. I am in the process of migrating from post.office 3.5.3 into Imail 7.11. Under post.office all your mail domains were lumped together so logons had to be unique. So for example we would have similar accounts for each domain. i.e. [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] Now because the login names to pickup your mail had to be unique logon names for those email addresses were as follow location_abuse and location1_abuse 11alive_education. Now when I create an account in Imail it appears as if the users firstname is their logon name as well as the first part of their email address. Any thoughts.
