here is what's not clear to me:

does the second number apply only if I check the checkbox to enable the
gateway ?
If the answer is yes, ok it's everything ok. :-)

If the answer is no, assume that the first number is X and the second
(the gateway's one) is Y .
The gateway is used only after X+Y attempts or if Y<X the email is sent
throught the gateway even if X is not expired ?
