David,
For a simple example, we have 2 DNS servers running on Win2k, right ?
For blasting out thousands of emails , you need a very very fast DNS servers
in order to make sending fast. Don't forget a mail server is as fast as the
DNS server's caching speed. Our both DNS servers, somehow, very slow on
resolving mail server's queries.. So I had to find another DNS server
outside, which could resolve hostnames faster, right? (allows recursion on
other words )
I went to register.com, and found ebay.com's DNS as the fastest,
crocodile.ebay.com which resolves to 216.32.120.21. Well, this is called DNS
stealing, I guess. I'm not even sure if this is a decent thing to do, not
only their "most precious" bandwidth getting lost, our peak mail sending
times might make their own DNS server not reachable.
I hope this helped,
Thanks
Serhan.
