Cannot help but to jump in on this one. I have been doing this business
since 97. We left Verisign (NetSol) years ago due to very poor service
and back then transferred over 500 domains to Registrars.com. They were
fantastic! Then Versign acquired them. ;( Instead of incorporating the
same business practices as Registrars.com, they let go the staff and
scrapped the Registrars.com system. We decided to try giving NetSol a
try since we automatically qualified as a partner/re-seller. After
about 1 month, we could not (yet again) get our domains away from them
fast enough! To top things off, they were going directly to our
customers with promotions and offers around us and violating our partner
agreement. When we would contact them about this - all we would get is
"we don't understand what happened?" All (I re-iterate "ALL") the
negative comments herein about Verisign, my staff experienced first hand
and are very TRUE, not rumors! We have even lost customers in part due
to Verisign's mishandlings. We avoid them like the plague. We did a lot
of research before going elsewhere and landed with Enom. Almost 2 years
now we are very pleased with them and the ability to self-admin DNS (5
DNS servers) has been fantastic for us due to the type of web site and
community building software we operate. Some of the other companies
mentioned with good comments posted I concur, as we on occasion deal
with these companies too. This is my 2 cents and opportunity to speak
out against a company who did us wrong, cost us many hours of
unnecessary time and resources, and even contributed to the loss of some
customers over the years. My warning to all here - if you have domains
with Verisign, you may very well consider transferring them elsewhere as
soon as possible as I see a ship sinking fast. On the other hand their
SSL certificate service has always been good for us, but we stopped
using them because they are too costly compared to others. Thawte (they
also own) have certs for far less, but the service was terrible and we
no longer use them now either.

That is actually very much NOT true (with Network Solutions/Verisign).

For about 2 years now, they have been hoarding domain names as they
expire,
planning to auction them off someday. There are *many* domains that
expired years ago that NetSol/Verisign has.

The rumor is that you can gamble the $60 at SnapNames to get the domain
--
but they've got a great racket going. You pay them $60, and they don't
even have to give you the name!
