Until you've looked at the logs, there is no mystery.  It's kind of like 
saying "It's so weird that my car won't start, I'm going to have to take it 
to a mechanic" when you're out of gas, or "Why doesn't my computer work" 
when it isn't plugged in.  Even if you know nothing about cars or 
computers, there are a few common sense things to check.  Same goes with a 
mailserver.
