IMail needs to think the Exchange box is IMail-compatible. On the SMTP virtual host, you need to change the SMTP Banner to have the text NT-ESMTP Server X1 in the HELO greeting (doesn't matter if MS' banner is there, too, but you may want to take it out for security, anyway).
