I'm getting a lot of rejections from the public archiving service atYes.
www.mail-archive.com It fails after 20 attempts. In the IMail log, I see
the following:
10:18 00:08 SMTP-(000008A8) Trying jab.org (0)
10:18 00:08 SMTP-(000008A8) Connect jab.org [198.186.203.28:25] (1)
10:18 00:08 SMTP-(000008A8) 421 zamboni.jab.org: Too many concurrent SMTP connections; please try again later.
Am I correct in understanding that the problem with "too many concurrent
SMTP connections" is that on their computer, they have too many users trying
to connect?
In the SMTP lines, the lines with a ">" are lines you send, and lines without a ">" are lines sent to you. In this case, you've connected to their server, and it's saying (with the 421 response) "I can't accept your mail now -- please don't try any backup mailservers, try again here later."
That's actually the recommended way of handling it (exponential delay, I think it's called), but unfortunately IMail doesn't support that.This brings up another question. I have IMail setup with the default of 20 retries every 30 minutes. That means that IMail only keeps trying for 10 hours. Seems to me that I would want something longer than that. I really kind of wish we could have several tries during the first hour, then go to trying once an hour for a set number of times.
