I apologize if this is an FAQ, I've been through the knowledgebase and the
sheer amount of results on the previous posts would take hours to go
through.
We had a server crash so I Installed Imail 7.07 over on another computer to
take up the slack while we get the server rebuilt. The second server is a
Quad Processor machine running with 4Gig of Ram. It's decked out. The
database is an SQL server system on another computer.
I'm finding when I use the server for intensive operations, (well, not VERY
intensive for this box) like Backup restoration (tape backup system is on
this) and/or zipping and unzipping of large (700Mb) files. The POP3 service
just stops. I notice my own e-mail client will hang at 'sending password'
and if I use telnet to telnet to the port 110 I put in 'user thomas' and it
hangs there.
There is nothing appearing in the logs whatsoever, even when debug messages
is turned on, the built in monitoring system in Imail doesn't notice the
service is down so the result is me having to remove the server and restart
the service.
What could be causing this and how can I prevent it? Should I resign to
simply make a process which restarts the pop3 service every 30 minutes to an
hour?
