Sorry to dredge up an old, OT topic. We ran into this same situation this
morning. I was able to delete all but one of the directories using the
method below. However, unlike the others, the remaining directory doesn't
display any "true" name when I do a "dir /x" command; that column is blank
for this directory. Please help.

Thanks,

-Keith

Here is how you get rid of em:

1. Go to CMD (command line)
2. Go to the directory wich has to be deleted
3. Know the "real name" of the direcory by
typing dir /x
(as example the dir is FILESF~1)
4. Type : rd /s files~1
done.

Good Luck.

Sounds like you've been hacked. I had this once (very quickly got a
better means of protection). Inside that directory are warez or music
or something. I don't recall exactly what I did to get rid of it, but I
ended up getting FlashEXP (an FTP client) which could see the hidden
character in the directory name, and thus could delete it.

A google / deja search turned up hacking instructions to create it, and
also some instructions to delete it.

The bigger problem is that there is now probably something vicious on
that box, giving folks the ability to use you as a file store. I used a
software firewall to quickly close the box down, while I could invest in
hardwall firewall.

Good luck.

Hello all,

Excuse me for asking an OT topic. It appeared in my server a directory a
strange directory called (lets say) unknown. When I try to delete it
windows tells me "The file unknown cant be delete. The file cant be
found". Any idea? Thanks in advance

Roberto
