Brian,

IMail FLAGS provides a configuration bit to disable web access, but not a
specific bit to diable POP3 access nor a specific bit to disable IMAP
access. If you are running all of the Webmail, POP3, and IMAP demons, the
only way to stop a user from using POP3 or IMAP is to disable the account or
block access via a router filter.

Two issues I have complained about since 4.x are full FLAGS control of
customer accessable services, disable user logon, AND don't accept mail for
this user. The FLAGS disable user bit only disables logon. I would like to
be able to disable a user logon and/or block incoming mail as separate bits.
Thus currently, IMail design drives our customer service/billing policy
rather than allowing us to decide it.

Mike

Subject: [IMail Forum] Locking Down POP Access

In a related note to my SMTP thread.

We has to set our server up in such a way that it had basically two IP's for
email access. Web-based users checked their email from a site called
webmail.richmond.com. However, we noticed a ton of people setting up
accounts and then using the same address to POP through.

As such, we started to charge for strictly POP access for our non-Isp based
customers, and physically blocked POP access on the webmail address at the
firewall level. When a user purchased access we would point them to another
address on the same box to supply their POP Access.

All of this is pretty darn confusing, I was curious if their was a way
within IMail to simply suspend POP access to an account (e.g. FLAGS)?

Or is this just a dumb question?

Thanks again.
