I have had lots of various connectivity problems using DSL connections, often with Microsoft PPTP. I learned that the DSL routers often do not support the lowering of the MTU (Maximum Transfer Unit) upon request. In many cases a hardware firewall can be used to lower it. You may also be able to lower it on your DSL router as well.
Here is a program that allows you to lower it on a windows machine, should you not be able to do it any other way. http://www.dslnuts.com/files/cmtu10017.zip There are instructions in the zip file. Try lowering the MTU from 1500 to 1000 or so and see if it helps. Then you can start raising it to as high as possible while still being able to have no connectivity problems.
