Thanks! My DSL modem/router (Westell) does not have a way to change MTU.
But my D-Link router does. I tried going down to 1200 on the D-Link but it didn't help, maybe I will try going lower. But would it make sense to do it on the D-Link? D-Link is behind Westell. Not really behind, more like it is piggybacked on the Westell. -----Original Message----- From: Glen Ostgaard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, December 18, 2002 9:44 PM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] OT: BellSouth DSL and MS VPN client I have had lots of various connectivity problems using DSL connections, often with Microsoft PPTP. I learned that the DSL routers often do not support the lowering of the MTU (Maximum Transfer Unit) upon request. In many cases a hardware firewall can be used to lower it. You may also be able to lower it on your DSL router as well. Here is a program that allows you to lower it on a windows machine, should you not be able to do it any other way. http://www.dslnuts.com/files/cmtu10017.zip There are instructions in the zip file. Try lowering the MTU from 1500 to 1000 or so and see if it helps. Then you can start raising it to as high as possible while still being able to have no connectivity problems. Lowering the MTU has fixed numerous random connectivity problems with SBC DSL connections. glen -----Original Message----- From: Tom Kemp [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, December 17, 2002 1:05 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] OT: BellSouth DSL and MS VPN client I know that some DSL and Cable ISP's don't permit you to VPN, unless you pay for the service. Just another way of getting your money. I guess that they must filter the protocol per circuit, unless you sign up. Don't know if this is the case, but just a thought.... Dennis T. Does anyone here use BellSouth DSL service? I just got it installed and it is working great. However when I am on DSL, I can't connect to my corporate network with the MS VPN client. My setup at home is: Win ME or Win 2K Pro with MS VPN client BellSouth gave me Westell WireSpeed DSL modem I bought D-Link 614+ Wireless router. However my PC is wired. D-Link is not blocking any outgoing traffic. I have even tried to bypass D-Link and connected straight to the Westell modem. Still no luck. The Westell modem is actually a router with a firewall but as far as I can see it is not blocking any outgoing traffic. I can ping the external IP address of the VPN server. MS VPN client can see it too but it times out on "Verifying username and password" and gives error 650.
