Never saw that happen. But I will check the configuration to see if the spool is excluded. HOWEVER, how would the anti-virus software catch the viruses if it does not pick up on the message being written to the mailbox?
Some desktop (as opposed to mailserver) AV programs are able to detect some viruses in the .SMD files on the hard drive; others are able to detect some viruses in the .MBX files; others can't see any viruses in either, while I haven't seen any that detect all viruses in either.

If the AV program happens to detect a virus in a .SMD file on the hard drive and deletes it, then it won't see it in the .MBX file (since it will never make it there). You'll also see exactly what you are currently seeing: completely blank E-mails (no body, and only headers that IMail adds). You're lucky if you AV program works this way (as you detect some viruses, and probably won't have legitimate mail wiped out as the AV program deletes an .mbx file that it happens to detect a virus in).

I am not sure what NetShield is watching with regard to the e-mail traffic. Where would the virus be caught?
Aside from what I mentioned above, you would have to either rely on trial and error, or guesswork. McAfee definitely is *not* going to give you any details, as they would much rather you pay many $1,000s for WebShield SMTP than $100s for NetShield.

Most likely, it is detecting some viruses in .smd files. Which ones and why is something you would have to try to figure out.

Of course, if you want full protection against viruses in E-mails going through your mailserver (and benefits such as notifications being sent out), you need a program specifically designed to do so (such as our Declude Virus, IMail AntiVirus, or WebShield SMTP).
