I too have tried just about everything. I went from a Nt4 Pent II 400 running iMail 5.08 with very adaquate WebMail response time to a Compaq Proliant DL 360 Pent III 1GHz running the latest SP's and Imail 7.13 HF1. The response time for checking mail via POP3 and IMAP are VERY fast (as projected). But the Webmail can take 10 - 15 seconds to login and over thirty seconds to display a folders contents (with ~ 600 messages). I know that is a lot of messages, but under 5.08, this particular user had thousands of messages with 2-3 second response times. Unfortunately this customer requires Webmail with the ability to keep the messages online (they are a national call center with reps in multiple locations requiring access to the same email).
I disabled the dual interal Compaq 3163 NIC's and replaced it with a 3Com 3CR990 card (the only one I had laying around) and the same giant delays. I use NAI NetShield for AV, and I disabled it completely with no effect to the response times. IIS is not installed, and Imail is the sole application on the server. The 3Com card is a server card, but only 10/100 but with a 3XP processor. I am not sure if dropping down to a Dlink DFE 538 would help, but I am running out of options. I am really looking for a solution, as this has been like this for over a month, and some users are getting a bit weary.
