Had
exactly the same problem a while back and found out that long domain names,
especially if they were also subdomains as in:
failed authentication.
You
should be able to find this discussion in the archives somewhere. Apparently it
had to do with the length of the encryted username/password
string.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Maybe OT: User Authentication with Eudora 5.xHiThis may be off topic just a bit but since there seems to be a wide range of expertise on this forum I thought I would try.I have a user who is using Eudora 5.x as his mail client, he has SMTP authentication selected in the program. He has the correct user name and password. When he tries to send mail outside our domain his mail is being rejected. The following is a snippet from the log files02:26 17:22 SMTPD(07250150) [216.116.98.198] EHLO NM_SREED.design.northsails.com

02:26 17:22 SMTPD(07250150) [216.116.98.198] ERR northmail.northsails.com invalid user <[EMAIL PROTECTED]The computer sending the mail is running Windows 2000 Professional, his computer name is NM_SREED, he is a stand alone unit not connected to any type of Microsoft or Novell Network. What's puzzling me is why his account is not being authenticated. I can log into the Web interface and send mail out of the companies domains without any problem. There are other users who use Eudora with W2K without this issues.Any ideas/insight into this would be appreciated.Regards,
