There is also, related to receiving mail under Tools/Options/incomingMail a selection of the paswd encoding scheme (Passwords, kerberos, APOP, RPA).
Basically, if you allow auth, it initiates the AUTH exchange. the imail log shows a failed PW - (it's been awhile and I don't have time to delve back into it right now...:(
Could it be the encoding scheme used for AUTH paswd
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (so this can go off list if you like)
(p.s. I'm the user in this case and can allow a relay for my IP, athough I'd much rather not)
