I have an IMail server configured where the hostname is different than the actual mail domain (because of AD/DNS issues).
AFAIK, IMail doesn't use any of the Windows-based names for the server. It only uses IMail's own settings.
In this case, I'm guessing that the issue is that the Official Host Name ("Host Name" on the General tab of IMail Administrator, when "localhost" is highlighted on the left side of the screen) of the IMail server, or one of the Official names for one of the domains, is the internal name (with the external name as a host alias). If this is the case, you should change the Official Host Name to the external name.
