Scott, I was in exactly the same boat you are in. However, I bought an upgrade, activated it put it on moments after installing SP4. I got it at CDW for US$349, which is considerably cheaper than buying an Imail Pro upgrade (analogous to the old Unlimited User license) direct from Ipswitch.
If things had gone Bad, I could have reverted to the backup I made immediately prior to the SP install. If your backup contains System State you might have an avenue there, after you at least backup Imail files and registry keys all over again. But really the smart move is to keep your system current and don't risk blowing it up. And really its time to upgrade whether you like it or not. Again, remember I was in your shoes, versionwise. Why fix something that's not broken, eh? I8 is worth the upgrade. Its definitely faster, stable and the web mail templates are nice enough (with a little help) that I'm not going to upgrade the HKSI Classic Web Mail templates. I had some issues with I6 that required it to be cycled every 2 hrs to ensure availability (neatly handled by a scheduled task). That's over with now. And the queue manager is a godsend. And the spam control? I use Declude Pro, and it whacks maybe 40% of incoming mail. Imail's statistical and html content filters bop maybe 10% of the survivors with no false positives so far. You can't expect 2-3 year old software to keep working when it has to interact with other stuff that is changing. You can point fingers and hold your breath, but it'll still bite you time and again no matter what product you're holding back. -------------------------------------------- Matt Robertson [EMAIL PROTECTED] MSB Designs, Inc. http://mysecretbase.com -------------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Scott MacLean Sent: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 9:12 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [IMail Forum] V6 and W2KSP4 My worst fears have come true - Windows 2000 SP4 includes Microsoft hotfix Q328310. Installing SP4 causes the administrator window problem seen here: http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-20021218-DM01.htm I am running V6 IMail. It is stable and perfect for our needs. I am loathe to spend money to "upgrade" to a newer version of IMail simply because of an incompatibility between their software and a Microsoft "fix". Looking at the hotfix, I don't see any single file which could be reverted to after the application of SP4 to keep IMail working properly. Q328310 has no importance to us, and we are happy to run without it. Anyone have any ideas? Or are we roped into a corner to force us to upgrade? _______________________ Scott MacLean [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ: 9184011 http://www.nerosoft.com To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/ To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/
