After talking to support on this issue, the support dept. decided to look into this issue. While I am waiting for the result, I thought, I will ask this usergroup if anyone has encountered similar problem:

Initially I installed Imail Small business v8.0 and the spam filtering was working fine, by having the SMTP port changed to 1025, so that McAfee's Webshield SMTP can use port 25 for receiving emails from the outside world.

When the patch 8.01 came out, I installed it and voila, the spam filtering function of Imail has stopped working, even the line "performing antispam checks" has disappeared form the log file.

Interesting.

The spam scanning shouldn't work if you have WebShield installed, as IMail will see the remote IP address as the IP address of the server running WebShield (127.0.0.1 in this case). Of course, non-IP based tests should work fine.

During troubleshooting with the technical support, we figured out, that somehow the patch 8.01 put in a pointer to port 25 into the spamfilter code, that disregards the SMTP port entry in the advanced SMTP setup.

The spamfilter started work again once we changed the SMTP port back to 25 (while having all Mcafee services stopped temporarily)

That is very unusual. I can't see any reason for IMail v8's anti-spam to use the port setting, as it can't listen on port 1025 (since IMail's SMTPD service already is). It may try verifying the TCP/IP connection, but that should only affect the IP-based spam tests (which won't work anyways, without anti-spam software that supports gateways).
