Yes. I have witnessed a similar phenomenon during provider induced outages. A client
of ours had this issue when a switch at the provider's NOC would suddenly drop all
communications. It would kill web mess within a few seconds, and very consistently.

There doesn't seem to be any excessive disk activity.. Could hung user
sessions contribute to such an anomaly? Our users are having a lot of dial
in issues due to this worm that's floating around. It's excessive pings are
crashing TNT MAX modem pools all over our network. Could a large amount of
hung user sessions make IWEBMSG croak like this?

Thanks,

7 is susceptible, 8 is immune

Some kind of "poisonous" spam message, a bad msg txt format or
attachment, getting through to probably many mailboxes on each server,
which when read from the queue or from the mailboxes cause the smtp queue
reader or iwebmsg to go get sick?

when the machine locks up, or coming up to that point, is disk i/o
excessive?
