a)  3/4  of their mail servers are deliberately administratively down,
but  they  don't  understand that traffic to them should be blocked at
the network level if possible to avoid such symptoms.

b)  3/4  of  their mail servers detect something spammy in your origin
host,  while  the  4th lets you through because it's using a different
DNS or different anti-spam logic.

c)  3/4  of  their  mail  servers are delaying mail due to back-end db
connectivity issues, and they may not even be aware.

Those are three situations for your consideration. :)
