I would think if he turned off relaying altogether, more than a couple of 5,000 customers would have a complaint. I don't think the best way to keep those customers is to shut everything down for a few hours to get off the lists since usually this takes days, or sometimes weeks even.
I would recommend changing IP addresses if you can. Set them up a postfix machine or something for outbound mail, and point dns over, let it update. If all your users will be coming from definite IP ranges, then all you have to do is configure those into your outgoing mail server. The other option would be, if you want to continue to use SMTP Auth, set IMail to send all outbound email through remote gateway, and configure a second server with only IMail's IP address, and let them send using that. Then you need to turn relay of for everyone. Don't worry about your customers - wait for them to complain (almost all won't - it will be interesting for you to find out who do and why they do). Then send an email to the blacklist or log on to their web site and have yourself un-blacklisted. Then rationally examine your Imail setup and slowly open your system up again for legit IP addresses etc. If you do what you are thinking of then you will likely lose most of your customers anyway! _____________________________________ Glen Harvy Aquarius Communications for all your Internet Needs.
