i had asked a similar question recently, but now that i have
more info, i shall ask again.
we have been running an imail server (7.07) here for at least
a year. i was not the person who set it up, but am now in charge of maintaining
it.
apparently, users have never been able to check their mail
from anywhere outside of our LAN.
the clients have to be configured using the internal IP for
the imail server as pop and smtp.
nor can i visit imail.server.com:8383 to check via the web
outside of the LAN.
if i ping the hostname, it resolves to the external IP for
both hostnames on the server (one is virtual).
i have a feeling that this may have something to do with a
port not being opened on our router or something related to that, but it seems
odd that the hostname resolves when pinged.
port 8383 appears to be open and is mapped to the imail
server.
we have a DSL connection with a static IP.
any ideas?
