One of these tests X-IMAIL-SPAM-VALHELO seems to fail sometime and not others. This failure happens both with mail sent within this IMAIL server, and from some users outside this system - but in both cases they seem to work sometimes and not others. I'd like to debug this behavior, but am unfamiliar with what the HELO test actually does. Any resources that would help like what to look for in DNS and/or how to verify it with a telnet session would be appreciated.

The way that it should work is it should take the HELO/EHLO domain from the SMTP envelope (you can find it in the top Received: header), and check to make sure that it has an MX or A record. That's all.
