Hello, Over the weekend I upgraded from IMail 6.04 to 8.0 and moved from a Windows NT box to Windows 2000. Other than the self inflicted wound I sustained by swapping the OHN and the Alias, I thought the upgrade went pretty well.
That is, until I came into work this morning and found all the users grouching about how LDAP wasn't working the same anymore. After several hours of head scratching and clicking 'Optimize LDAP', I finally figured out the LDAP is now case sensitive! In other words, if the users name in IMail is 'Alan Walters' and somebody types 'alan' into the address field, LDAP claims there's no match! However, if somebody types 'Alan' or 'Walters' or even 'awalters' then it finds a match. Unfortunately, nearly all the users have been trained over the years to address their emails by searching for the recipients first name in lower case - and that's no longer working since the upgrade. I've searched the IpSwitch knowledge base for LDAP, but all I can come up with are tips on how to make Outlook 98/2000 work better with LDAP. We're still using Netscape Messenger 4.79, because it has a more intuitive approach to LDAP addressing than Outlook. In Netscape if you enter a partial name, Messenger will automatically fill in the rest or automatically offer a popup box with similar matches to choose from. Does anybody know a trick to get LDAP to be case insensitive? Or what the magic incantation is for the Search Root field? Currently we have 'Person' specified. We've tried the 'Objectclass=Person' which is supposed to work for Outlook, but does nothing for Netscape. Alan Walters Director of I.T.
