If you have a service agreement with IPSwitch for IMail, and they gave you
an authorized download, the serial number, according to IMail, is built into
the software.

If you don't have a service agreement, and you just purchased the software
from them, it's built into the software.

If you've downloaded an evaluation version, you either need to pay for it to
get a serial number, or purchase the service agreement to get the right to
use it.
