No, Len. Anti-spam software is designed to block spam. Anti-virus software is designed to block viruses. Blocking file extensions does not help improve anti-spam detection.

Anti-spam softwware can and does implement attachment policies effectively at the MX.
That is not anti-spam software;

People have been trying for years to write a filter in IMail that effectively blocks extensions. It has not happened yet.
100% perfection, no, but an MX rule for blocking <whatever> attachments can be very effective. "perfection is the enemy of the good"
