One of my clients has been sent over 600 emails, approx 250k each, totalling around 150MB.
The email has 100's if not 1000's of email address in the CC field (each of which are probably receiving 100's of copies of this 250k email). All of these emails are coming from zombies, but all have the same MAIL FROM address. It looks like the domain $$$$.com has been targeted by spammers, so much so that www.$$$$.com have placed a notice on their web site and turned off their telephone system due to the number of obscene phone calls they are receiving. The attachment does look like a flyer from the targeted company, but not only is this causing $$$$ a problem, but also the recipients of the mail in that there accounts are practically being mail bombed. More instances of these should really highlight the need for something like SPF! And fast! My problem is that these spammers have used 150MB of my bandwidth, and overheads on my server by scanning all this crap for viruses (just for 1 user/recipient!). Something like SPF would help prevent this, and I use Declude which is able to check SPF records, but Imail users don't have the facility to disconnect an SMTP connection prior to receiving all the email data. Equating to wasted bandwidth and processes. I think this is something that seriously needs addressing in Imail if Imail users are to stay afloat in this swamp of spam. What's the likelihood of Imail implementing this? Or what alternatives are there?
